Within the framework of the 13th Annual Meeting of Balkan Academy of Forensic Sciences (BAFS) which will be organized in Prishtina, capital of Republic of Kosovo, from 27 to 29 October 2022, I would like to welcome you as a President of Conference, by encouraging you to exchange our knowledge and experience from various fields of forensic sciences by improving and building the highest scientific research and studies.

The objectives of forensic sciences in general consist on building platforms and unique global standards towards innovation, documentation and interpretation of forensic facts in the service of justice institutions. This conference of BAFS will gather scientists of forensic sciences, forensic pathologists, forensic investigators, forensic nurses and researchers in forensic sciences with the aim of increasing the level of our services through various scientific presentations in different areas of the field.

In particular, students and young researchers are encouraged to participate from the different areas of forensic sciences such as forensic pathology, anthropology, archaeology, odontology, including the fields of law, criminalistics, safety and security, advocacy, judicial and prosecution systems, for whom the forensic sciences provide their professional and scientific services.

During the conference there will be a rich social program, where each of the participants will learn about the cultural, artistic, historic and scientific values of our country, by visiting different locations and participating in programs organized particularly for our conference.

The social program is planned to include visiting different beautiful places in Kosovo that will stay in your lifetime memory.

Find the workshop details below Registration is open and there is fee of 20 € per workshop.
If you are interested in participating in one these workshops, please apply by October 20, 2022.
Workshop 1
HUMANITARIAN FORENSICS
(In the memory of Prof. Dr. Mete Gülmen)
Humanitarian forensics is a new discipline in forensic science and deals with the humanitarian response to victims of conflicts, violence, and catastrophic events. We also have consequences of migration where victims of violence including deceased or missing individuals are present. There is a serious effort for the identification of missing individuals with the aim of informing families about the fate of their relatives. There is also an ethical obligation for the deceased to restore their identity after death. This workshop has been organized because of the obvious need of further development, integration, and research to meet growing needs at global scale.

The Workshop is covering the following aspects:
-
Related Legislations and The International Approach
-
The Human Rights Aspect
-
The Medicolegal and Forensic Techniques
-
Best Practices
Workshop 2
SEXUAL ASSAULT FOR FORENSIC EXAMINERS-OPERATIONAL ISSUES
Sexual violence to which all members of society are vulnerable regardless of race, age, gender, or social standing, deserves competent and special care. Criminal justice and specially health care practitioners need special training in responding to the immediate needs of sexual assault victims. Sexual assault forensic exams need to be performed in a sensitive, dignified, and victim-centred manner. This will contribute greatly to the overall healing of the victims. We have organized this workshop having in mind that criminal justice and health care practitioners who respond to victims of sexual assault should be aware of the cutting edge to enhance their ability to treat and support victims as well as identify and punish the sex offenders.
The Workshop is covering the following aspects:
-
Coordinated Team Approach
-
Victim-Cantered Care
-
Sexual Assault Colposcopic Imaging Technics
-
Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assault
-
Pregnancy Risk Evaluation and Care
Workshop 3
FORENSIC ENTOMOLOGY
The Science of Forensic Entomology resolve questions like season observation, time of death, and probable reconstruction of a crime scene. It does so by the study of insect types commonly associated with cadavers, their respective life cycles, their ecological presences in a given environment, as well as the changes in insect assemblage with the progression of decomposition. The identification of post-mortem interval to aid in death investigations is the primary scope of this scientific field but not only. It can be used in cases of neglect and abuse, in toxicology contexts to detect the presence of drugs, and in dry shelf food contamination incidents. On the other hand it can be used to approximate a given location, as certain insects may be unique to certain areas.

This workshop will cover the following topics of the discipline:

-
Forensic Entomology (Introduction)
-
Crime Scene Investigation and Insect Evidence
-
Insect Rearing and Identification
-
Entomotoxicology
-
Post-mortem interval (PMI) using insects
